Tocom rubber futures settle slightly higher, taking leads from a stronger Nikkei and weaker yen. Despite rebounds recently that were triggered by positive news like an improvement to China's manufacturing activity, overall sentiment in rubber remains weak. With prices down as much as 30% this year, market confidence will need a huge boost for a sustained recovery, say trade participants. A trader in Singapore says rubber may turn the corner if the yen depreciates significantly on policy moves in Japan, as fundamentals seem to count for nothing currently, after this year's price slump, even amid the earlier low-production season, he adds.
